Best Practices Reduce Cost and Enhance Reputation

Sustainable Research Group has a client who has owned a successful manufacturing business for 40 years, but was repeatedly receiving requests from customers to provide detailed environmental data to qualify for sales opportunities. The standard in-house approach was to assign an available person to research the question and custom compile the required data. As requests increased in frequency, this approach was becoming more complex, time consuming and expensive. SRG recommended the company consider the development of sustainable management systems that could standardize and streamline environmental operations. The company worked with SRG to implement the following approach: create a Design for Environment process; an energy baseline and management system, a solid waste reduction initiative, a water baseline and management system, a chemical assessment management system and an overarching environmental management system to coordinate and pull the initiatives together. This approach resulted in faster response time with highly accurate data, a stronger reputation among major customers and reduced operating costs for the client.
